Latte Talk… Paleo

Today, the hubs and I are starting the Paleo challenge for the next 30 days. We have several reasons for doing this and weight loss is not one of them.  Obviously, that will be an added benefit but not our main reason.  Basically, I feel like crap these days.  I am constantly tired, drained, and feeling very unhealthy. I could blame it on the fact that I work full time, have a toddler, stay up late blogging, but I think it’s more than that.  Ever since our vacation back in May I have just felt yucky and basically bloated all the time. I first discussed Paleo actually back in January with my doctor, he is a big proponent and we talked about the benefits but that’s as far as I went with the thought.  I have always believed what we eat is to blame for most of the health issues in society today and though we try to eat healthy most of the time and limit processed food we still eat these things.  So, it’s time to make a change.  I was going to do this by myself but surprisingly the hubs said he would do it as well.  We also have another couple doing this too so it will be nice to have friends to discuss this with.

For 30 days we can’t eat: SUGAR, DAIRY, LEGUMES, GRAINS OF ANY KIND… This means no sugar, no coffee creamer, limited fruit, no crackers, no bread, no cheese plates, and NO ALCOHOL.

There are several Paleo 3o day challenges out there but we are going with the Robb Wolf plan.  I read his book, The Paleo Solution, only because I wanted to understand more of the science behind eating this way.  And, we are starting in the middle of the week because I’ve been told by several people that by day 4 and 5 it’s horrible and you’re really cranky. So, I figured it would be best to be like this over the weekend. I’ll be updating you as we go along this month. It’s only for 3o days so how hard can it be? Ironically enough, the last day will be my birthday, September 11th.  I leave you with images of all my favorite things to eat that I won’t be eating for the next 3o days! And no, London will NOT be participating in the 30 day challenge.

foodYou can follow along with me on Instagram to see the meals we are putting together. And, if you saw my post from last night with the yogurt, I felt completely sick to my stomach after eating all of that!

Good luck! I don’t think I could do a Paleo diet for a week, let alone a month. I’m curious to see how you feel by the end of the challenge!

    • Thanks Emmie! I’ll keep you posted on how it’s going!

  • Good luck! Paleo sounds interesting but I don’t know if I could give up wheat dairy and beans!

    • Thanks Whitney! The dairy is killing me. Black coffee- no good!

First of all…how was I not following you on Instagram until now? Weird. Second…I’m intrigued by this whole Paleo concept. But the idea of giving up dairy….I can’t even. Lets be honest…the lack of alcohol would be a real killer too. I can’t wait to see how this goes for you. Perhaps you will be my inspiration!

    • I know. The dairy is going to be tricky. I think I’ll be ok with the no alcohol. It’s only day one though. Wish us luck!!!

  • Good for you for trying out Paleo! I totally agree with you that a lot of today’s health problems can be traced back to all the processed crap we eat. I worked in a science-based nutrition and exercise clinic for awhile, and the diet we advocated for was similar to Paleo. I pretty much ate only vegetables, lean meats, eggs, and a little cheese for 4 months. I lost a lot of weight and felt good, but that was just a little TOO restrictive for long-term (which I learned when my body rebelled and I craved nothing but carbs for months). I’ve spent the last few years trying to find a happy medium. I haven’t read a whole lot about paleo, but it seems to be a more reasonable, healthy solution. You’ll have to keep us posted!!

    • Thanks! I know I think after the 30 days will be super hard but hopefully I am training my body not to crave all the crap I normally eat. But, I couldn’t be this restrictive forever. Hopefully it will be a smooth transition. I’ll let you know how it’s going!!!!
