NAVY SITTING ROOM INSPIRATION

navy1Several months ago we had our sitting room painted Hale Navy, by Benjamin Moore. I had seen the color in a Pottery Barn catalog and loved it immediately. We had been talking about redoing our sitting room and I knew this would be the perfect color for the room. I sort of had a vision in mind of what I wanted the room to look like, but I wasn’t exactly sure so the room has sat bare for about 5 months now. Over the last two months I had decided I wanted the room to resemble a library with a set of shelves and a nice sitting area. Not wanting to spend a fortune on shelves we ended up going with several of  the IKEA Billy Book Shelves in white and couldn’t be more happy. The shelves look custom and have more than ample space on them, exactly what I had in mind. The hubs also added lights above the shelving to give it more of a finished look. Now, we just need to furnish the room and I have turned to Pinterest for some inspiration. We need two chairs, a table with lamp, and a rug to finish furnishing the room. I am also thinking about some artwork as well and am thinking about a few landscape paintings. I am not sure how much we will complete before heading off to Paris, but I will be sure to keep you updated as we go along. Until then, these Pinterest images are fueling my creativity to complete the room.

Touches of Spring

With the start of Spring I felt the need to refresh the house a bit by rearranging some furniture and adding some color. There’s nothing I love more than a room full of color with fresh pillows and flowers. It’s also the easiest and cheapest way to freshen up a room. I always love to buy flowers at Trader Joe’s or The Fresh Market. They both offer such beautiful flowers at great prices, that it’s so easy to buy several bunches and spread them throughout the house in different rooms. I picked up the purple Hyacinth last weekend and it brought the most amazing smell to the house. I forgot how great they smelled.

Black and White Office Updates

A few weeks ago I mentioned I was working on a little office redo and showed you what my inspiration looked like here. I am not completely finished with the office yet, but I have added a few new black and white pieces here and there.  I came across these pictures on Pinterest and fell in love with this site  Sealoe.  Since I had an idea of a black and white theme for the office these pictures fit in absolutely perfect and I just love the simple sayings and graphics. The site is based in Sweden and your orders ship for free internationally. I picked up a few prints and a tray to add to my office and found frames for them at IKEA for $10 that are perfect. I also added a white orchid and candle which make for a tasteful yet simple touch. I still have a few shelves to hang up and more pictures to add, but so far I am loving how everything is coming together.

Office Inspiration

My office has been a work in progress now for about two years. I’ve gone back and forth how I want it set up, what art work I want hanging, and how to make the room more “me.” I’ve struggled for some time now because my work desk for my day job is constantly cluttered with paperwork and not very inspirational.  To balance this I actually added another desk in my office which is my “blogging” desk. I am lucky in that my office is rather large and I am able to accommodate two desks. However, once again I am wanting to change things up a bit.  A fresh paint color, a little rearranging of the furniture, and a few new pictures are what I have in mind.  I am leaning more toward a black and white space with a clean aesthetic and a pop of color here and there.  Here are a few rooms which are serving as my inspiration.

I hope to have the office complete within the next month and can’t wait to show you the outcome. I am hoping it’s exactly what I am wanting.
